Early red radicchio di Chioggia is the result of selection of variegated radicchio di Castelfranco; currently it is the most commonly grown variety of radicchio, thanks to its ability to adapt to many different climates.

The round leaves are “cup” shaped, they have smooth edges and branching whitish green veins that widen at the base. The head is round, very compact and is characterized by its red wine-red colour.
Red radicchio di Chioggia has a slightly bitter flavour and crispy leaves, it is mainly eaten raw in salads.
