What does it mean for cucumber seedlings to maintain their root ball?

My Journal is telling me Do your cucumber seedlings maintain their root ball... I have no idea what that is?? thank you for any help.

It might mean the soil that's "trapped" by the roots when you take the small plant out of the seedtray. When you grow from seed either in seedtrays or in small pots, you should wait untill the roots have completely wrapped themselves around the soil so that when you take the plant out of the pot, the pot should stay clean. The cucumber plants should be big enough to handle at this stage. I hope this will help. P.
