Why are my mellons getting soggy?

I have found two canteloupe and one watermellon last night ... all three were growing nicely and they were soggy and crushed in.  I opened them and they looked so good and had plenty of new seeds inside as well as coloring so nice..  Do you think this is from the heavy rain that we get?  Or is it something else?  Do I need to actually turn the mellons in the garden or just let them sit and grow in the one spot?  I have more on the vine seeming to be doing nicely with exception of one that I will post after uploading photos..  Thank you for any help.  I really hope to have a successful harvest with the mellons..
